FIELD EDUCATION
Field Education is the heart of the deaconess training program of Harris Memorial College (HMC). This course is required to students enrolled in the church degree program during their Sophomore and Junior Years to enable them to put into practice the principles and theories learned in the classroom. They are assigned to United Methodist churches and other evangelical churches where they serve on weekends for the whole school year.
This is a two- semester laboratory experience for the Sophomores in the church degree program. Weekly class instructions and individual consultations help the students acquire skills in planning lessons and teaching children in Sunday School and extension classes and interacting and working with various age groups of people in the church. Students are periodically observed and evaluated by the Field Supervisor and Coordinator.
